Alright listen up parents, if little Johnny and Susie are squirming all over the place in class and the teacher is pulling their hair out, it’s time to step up. Those kids need to burn off some energy before the school day starts. Now I know you’re tired after work and the last thing you feel like doing is more exercise. But trust me, just 30 minutes a day will make a world of difference.
First thing in the morning, before breakfast, get them outside. Even if it’s raining, bundle them up and have them do laps around the yard. Or get a jump rope – teaching kids to skip is great for coordination and they’ll be breathing hard in no time. If you don’t have a yard, take them to the park for a good run around. Try organizing a game of tag or get a ball out. Then when you get back, refuel with a healthy breakfast.
Most important – don’t just do this once in a while. Make it a daily habit, just like brushing their teeth. On weekends, vary the activities – hit the playground, go for a bike ride, even try something like hiking if they’re older. The fresh air and nature is great for the mind as well as the body. Just don’t overdo screens – trust me the energy boost lasts way longer from real exercise.
Keep it up and I guarantee by the end of the week you’ll have much calmer, more focused kids in class. And teachers will be thanking you instead of pulling out their hair! Let me know if you need any other exercise ideas to wear out the little tykes. Remember – tired kids are happy kids.
