You’ve heard it from Dan before – mess makes stress.
We all know how stressful mess can be – that pile of junk on your desk staring at you, the milk gone bad in the back of the fridge, clothes strewn all over the bedroom. It’s enough to make your brain feel like chaos! Well I’m here to tell you, the solution is simple – just clean that sh*t up! Next time you feel stressed, instead of popping a pill or doing some yoga pose you saw on Instagram, devote 10 minutes to straightening up the next messy area you see.
I don’t mean half-ass it either. Take everything out, really scrub that space down. Be methodical in how you organize and put everything back. Focus on each task, one item at a time. This will force your brain to be present in the moment instead of dreaming up worst case scenarios. When the 10 minutes are up, I guarantee you’ll feel a sense of calmness. The mess is under control and your mind will be too!
Some of you are thinking “but Dan, I don’t have time to clean.” Bullshit! You make time for what’s important. And your mental health should be top priority. Instead of mindlessly scrollin’ social media for an hour after work, spend just 10 minutes each day tidying up. You’ll be shocked how much it helps reduce stress and helps you relax, without all the namby pamby meditation apps. The next time your mind starts feelin’ like a mess, remember – just clean something up instead!
Now I know some of you might be thinking, “But Dan, cleaning is SO BORING!” Listen up, sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do to relax like a champ. Suck it up, buttercup! Just put some motivational music on while you tidy and before you know it, those 10 minutes will be up. Now get to it you bums, and relax like a champ!
