Alright ya bunch of stressed out jagaloons, you’re all running around like chickens with your heads cut off, grinding yourselves into the dirt. Well, it’s time for a wake up call – you need to chill the heck out before you burn out completely!
That’s why I’ve been having an absolute blast posting haikus alongside breathtaking nature shots on my Twitter account (or X or whatever).
Don’t go rolling your eyes at me, you smug punks. This might seem like some tree-hugging hippie nonsense, but I’m dead serious.
Haikus are a powerful way to hit the relaxation reset button.

Waterfall cascades
Lush green forest surrounds
Nature’s sweet music
You see that? You take a moment to really drink in that image while the haiku rolls around in your brain. Instantly, you’re transported out of the anxious hamster wheel of your mind. You’re present with the sights, the sounds, the feeling of being there. That’s some premium-grade zen for your stressed out dopey asses.
And haikus have been around way longer than any of your dipstick meditation apps or yoga poses. These tiny poems emerged in Japan in the 1600s as the opening verse of longer poetic forms known as renga. They followed a rigid structure – three short lines with a 5-7-5 syllable pattern. Seems simple, right? Well, trying to cram an entire captured moment into 17 little syllables is harder than it looks, muchachos.

Sun beams pierce the mist
Ancient forest dwellers wake
New day’s quiet hush
That’s the genius of haikus – they make you slow your roll and really be present with a slice of awesomeness from nature. In our frenetic, burn-the-candle-at-both-ends world, that zen is a crucial skill for relaxation.
Plus, coming up with these little poetic riffs gets your creativity brewing in a casual, low-stakes way. No pressure to craft an epic masterpiece, you boneheads. You just concentrate on distilling one nice little moment down to its purest essence. Freeing, right?
So don’t go knocking the haiku until you give it an honest try, ya meatheads. Stay tuned to CoachDan_RLC for more gorgeous shots paired with haikus to help you find your chill. Who knows, you might just get hooked and start spotting pocketsize moments of zen all around you in your daily grind.
